Folding the American flag into a neat triangle is a traditional way to store and present it respectfully. Follow these steps to keep folds clean, edges aligned, and the flag off the ground.
Step 1: Hold the Flag Taut
Two people should hold the flag waist-high, level, and off the ground. Keep it stretched taut before you begin folding.

Step 2: Fold Lengthwise (Bottom Up)
Fold the flag in half lengthwise once, aligning edges carefully.

Step 3: Fold Lengthwise Again
Fold in half lengthwise a second time to form a long strip.

Step 4: Begin Triangle Folds
Start at the striped end (opposite the union). Fold a corner up to form the first triangle.

Step 5: Continue Triangle-Over-Triangle
Continue folding triangles along the strip, keeping folds tight and even as you move toward the union.

Step 6: Tuck & Secure
Tuck remaining fabric into the fold. The finished triangle should show only the blue field on the outside.

Tip
Keep the flag taut, align edges carefully, and press each triangle fold snug before moving to the next.
